Veetec3D - how it all started
I was thinking about how to approach the very first blog post on this site. In the end, I figured the best way would be to introduce what we do and why we got so passionate about it.
We’re a group of colleagues and friends who one day decided to get into 3D printing. It all started with just me—I bought an Ender 3 on sale from Aliexpress (not even the Pro version). It cost just under 3,000 CZK at the time. I didn’t manage to complete my first print until two weeks later, since the printer refused to cooperate until I upgraded it a bit. So I jumped straight into tweaking and improving it.
My first prints were mostly keychains and other small stuff, but I quickly became completely fascinated by 3D printing. I knew right away that I wanted to keep going. My next step was to go for the best local brand at the time—Prusa Research, known for building the best 3D printers in the world.
I joined their shipping department, and if you happen to own a Prusa i3 MK3s, there’s a decent chance I packed it—and sweated over it. But I knew I didn’t want to stay in shipping. I started experimenting with more complex prints and soon found myself dreaming of building my own print farm using MK3 printers.
Around early 2022, I began taking on custom print jobs using my 2–3 printers. The positive feedback I received was a major motivator—it kept me going and deepened my commitment to 3D printing.
That’s also when I created my first product: a SteamDeck stand/holder, and launched my own Etsy store under the name Veetec3D (in case you’re wondering, the name comes from my Czech name, Vítek).
After selling around 600 units, it was time to take things a step further. Since I loved improving my own printers, I wanted to offer something similar to others who share the same passion. The reality is, many people want to upgrade their printers but get discouraged by having to source screws, follow scattered instructions, or even solder parts.
That’s where my colleague and I came in. Soldering didn’t scare us. Packing orders late into the night after work felt like a joy. Once again, our biggest motivator was the positive feedback from customers. Our quality control was set exactly the way we’d want it as customers. We never cut corners. If a print was flawed, we’d rather toss it than sneak it into someone’s package.
Soon, our little print farm grew to five printers. With more and more orders coming in, we knew we couldn’t keep printing in a friend’s kitchen—we had to grow again.
So, like any proper startup, we moved into a garage. Our farm expanded to 11 printers, and the orders kept pouring in. Sometimes we shipped a little late, but we always handled everything with extreme care. Every print was carefully cleaned and inspected. Every fan or power supply was connected and tested. The folks at the post office even started recognizing us by name.
From there, things just kept growing. In a matter of months, our farm went from 11 to 36 printers, and as of now, we’re running 53 printers—based right in Vršovice, Prague.
We’d be thrilled if you stopped by to chat about your next 3D printing project—or just to geek out about 3D printing in general.
